E! Online goes off on Twitter

The world of entertainment is changing all the time. With the rise of YouTube, the path to fame and popularity is more accessible than ever. But what happens when your job is talking about entertainers who don’t keep up with what’s popular? Well, you make a fool out of yourself, like E! did in a recent article talking about the Teen Choice Awards.

Sure, it’s a little embarrassing that entertainment writer Seija Rankin complained about not keeping up with popular culture. There are a lot of YouTubers and Viners, though. It’s understandable that not everything would be your cup of tea. We’ll just ignore the misspelling Lele Pons name or that Felix Kjellberg, aka pewdiepie, has more subscribers than E! has viewers. But Rankin even failed to identify Skylar Astin who came to fame in the traditional way, starring in Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2. YouTube star Tyler Oakley was having none of it.

Neither was Jeremy Cabalona, community manager for Vine.

Rather than catch up with what’s popular, E! went off, responding with childish tweet…

… after childish tweet.

Too bad for them the YouTube star they referenced, Grace Helbig, called them out on their bad behavior.

Sounds like E! = Embarrassing! not Entertainment!
