A “fun” night at the 69th Annual Tony Awards

The 69th Annual Tony Awards, honoring achievement in Broadway theater, took place on Sunday, June 7th, and it was a historic event.

Fun Home, a musical telling the story of a young lesbian and her gay father, is based on the book of the same name by Alison Bechdel and was the big winner of the night. The show took home many of the evening’s top awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score Written for the Theatre. Not only is the show notable for having the first lesbian as a main character, it is also the first time women have won the award for Best Original Score.

It was also a big night for actor Tim Curry making his first public appearance after suffering from a stroke in July of 2012. Curry appeared at The Actors Fund Tony Awards Viewing Party to take home The Actors Fund Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on Broadway.

Congratulations to all the winners!
